Brewery Announcement

It is with heavy hearts that after 8 years of owning 171 N. Addison, and 7 years of operating Elmhurst Brewing inside, that we are announcing we have sold to another brewery.

Running a brewpub over the last few years became increasingly challenging, with rising labor costs, increased food costs, changing customer behavior, and that the younger drinking-age generation isn’t consuming beer like previous generations.

When we opened EBC in February 2018, minimum wage in DuPage County was $8.50, and today it is $15. Raising food and beer prices as little as possible still resulted in low profit margins. And with neither owner coming from a hospitality background, we gave it our best shot, and have zero regrets.

We are extremely proud of so many things over the last 7 years, including:

~Being Elmhurst’s first brewpub
~Winning 13 medals and “best in show” awards (including a gold medal at the international Festival Of Barrel Aged Beer a few months ago, and a bronze at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival in Denver)
~Featuring so many creative brews from both Head Brewer Cam and Head Brewer Jake
~Hosting multiple large charity events and supporting D205 & other local schools
~Pioneering our Euchre League in the western suburban brewery scene
~Pivoting in 48 hours during Covid to becoming an efficient carryout brewpub, and saving so many staff jobs (thanks for your very generous tips for them!!)
~Hosting increasingly competitive darts and bags leagues
~Receiving so many accolades for our lightly-battered fresh cheese curds, and our blended Angus beef & ground brisket burger
~Following Chef Jason’s lead into providing exciting dishes such as our lobster roll, pork fried rice, meatloaf, pot roast tots, whitefish dip, and so many others
~Hosting the only area Open Mic night consistently for the last 7 years

But most of all we are proud to have had so many amazing team members call EBC home, and watch so many grow, graduate, marry, and have children, and others rise from being Servers to becoming trusted Keyholder/Managers.

None of this would have been possible without the fantastic support of our wives, children, relatives, EBCF investor group (who have all been paid back!), the City of Elmhurst, the IL Craft Brewers Guild, and YOU – the beer lover, local business supporter, guest, and friend, supporting EBC.

So please come out and enjoy your last Fool’s Gold, kids mac n cheese, fish and chips, Julius Squeezer, Dad Bod and Lush, before we close for good on Sunday June 29 at 10pm.

In the immortal words of Frank the Tank:
–> “Fill it up again! Fill it up again! Once it hits your lips, it’s so good!”

ABOUT

The Elmhurst Brewing Company was created to meet the rapidly-growing demand for local, high-quality craft beer that the country, the state of Illinois, and our neighboring suburbs have been seeing for the last few years. With the Chicago success stories of Goose Island, Revolution Brewing, and Half Acre, and the western suburban successes of Two Brothers and many more, we feel Elmhurst is overdue for its own microbrewery. As two experienced business owners who live in Elmhurst and are dedicated to our community, we are committed to building and operating a successful family-friendly destination for the enjoyment of craft beer.

Our mission is to become a source of pride for Elmhurst residents by building a preferred destination for both families and craft beer drinkers to eat, drink, and socialize within their community, and to do so with the best ingredients and constantly-changing styles and types of beer offerings.
